ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a seasoned Quality Assurance Manager with a robust background in technology and software development. This role is designed for a dynamic professional who excels in leading quality assurance and control initiatives, ensuring the highest standards of quality in our cloud-based architecture solutions. With a pivotal role in our organization, the Quality Assurance Manager will be instrumental in driving our product excellence and customer satisfaction to new heights.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Quality Assurance Specialist – SENSE Platform is a technically skilled professional with a software development background who is passionate about building quality into every layer of our product. This role is ideal for a developer who wants to broaden into quality engineering — combining hands-on coding, test automation, and problem-solving across SENSE’s three major components:

  1. Telemetry App: real-time, per-second data capture at customer sites.
  2. Data Processing Pipeline: cloud services that transform raw telemetry into daily phenotype values.
  3. Web UI Applications: dashboards, analytics, & animal trial management tools.

You will play a pivotal role in designing, automating, and executing tests that ensure data integrity, performance, and reliability across this full ecosystem — from device to dashboard.

FIRST 90 DAYS

  • Learn SENSE’s architecture, data flows, and operational objectives.
  • Review QA documentation, test scripts, and known defect logs to understand baseline coverage.
  • Build familiarity with the existing development and CI/CD environments (AWS, GitHub Actions, Playwright).
  • Begin authoring automated tests for one end-to-end SENSE workflow (Telemetry → Cloud → UI).
  • Partner with developers and the Product Assurance Manager to define acceptance criteria and test coverage for upcoming releases.
  • Identify quick-win improvements for testing efficiency and reporting visibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated and manual tests for SENSE’s data-capture, processing, and visualization layers.
  • Conduct white-box tests (code-level, API, and service integration) and black-box tests (UI, end-user workflow, regression).
  • Collaborate with developers to integrate testing directly into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Build and maintain test harnesses for RESTful APIs, data streams, and web services.
  • Write and review test scripts in Python, JavaScript, or C# to validate logic and data transformations.
  • Troubleshoot telemetry-to-cloud data discrepancies, working with developers to isolate root causes.
  • Contribute to the design of performance and reliability tests for high-frequency sensor data.
  • Participate in UAT and release readiness reviews, ensuring alignment with product requirements and field conditions.
  • Document test results, create bug reports, and verify fixes.
  • Continuously learn new QA tools, frameworks, and automation approaches.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Education and Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent technical field.
  • 3–6 years of software development or test-automation experience.
  • Strong interest in transitioning toward or expanding within Quality Assurance.
  • Experience working with distributed or IoT-style systems is an asset.

Technical Skills:

  • Solid programming knowledge in Python, C#/.NET, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Experience with automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, PyTest, Postman/Newman)
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, WebSockets, and message-based architectures.
  • Understanding of relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) data stores.
  • Exposure to AWS environments (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS) is a plus.
  • Comfortable working in Linux and Windows environments.
  • Knowledge of Git, GitHub Actions, or similar CI/CD tools.
  • Preferred: experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and telemetry data pipelines.

Soft Skills:

  • Analytical and curious mindset — enjoys tracing a defect through multiple code layers.
  • Strong communication skills across remote, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, iterative environment.
  • Collaborative attitude and willingness to learn new domains (ag-tech, IoT, data science).
  • Because this role supports global teams and requires regular communication with colleagues and customers in English-speaking regions, proficiency in English (verbal and written) is required. Candidates must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently to perform the essential functions of the position.

SUCCESS METRICS

  • Increased automation coverage across all SENSE components.
  • Faster regression cycles and fewer escaped defects in production.
  • Reduced test execution time through CI/CD integration.
  • Verified data accuracy between telemetry capture and phenotype calculation.
